When is a “B” the second best rating that you can get? When it comes to Foo Kee Seafood Cafe! As in attaining the next optimum ranking ever accorded by The Chinese Quest that is! For the other reason that you could score a “B”, you may just have to examine out our Twitter feed, @TheChineseQuest.
After a two thirty day period hiatus, in the winter season that seemingly will never ever end in the New York Town Metropolitan region, the Mee’s hit the highway once again this night. Getting unique be aware of Mee Tsu Yan’s fragile intestinal fortitude, or lack thereof at this time, we purposely chose a Chinese cafe of the Cantonese selection.
Once once more lookup of the ideal Chinese cafe about we ventured forth once more across the Nassau border in to Flushing, NY. At this point we must think about score Flushing restaurants on a independent scale than Prolonged Island restaurants as is getting to be apparent that Flushing restaurants are now occupying four of the top five places on our Quest to discover the ideal Chinese cafe on all of, umm, Lengthy Island.
Our spot was:
Foo Kee Seafood Restaurant
136-fourteen thirty eighth Avenue
Flushing, NY 11354
Our particular guest this night was the most honorable Mee Har Vee, a entire world renowned wine connoisseur, or sommelier, a bon vivant, and an all close to good male. A actual mensch, if ever we achieved one. A character. And boy do we know characters!
Darren was our host. I swear the male could have been in vaudeville! And what greater way to strike a chord with a Jew than currently being humorous and personable. We have been in for a actual handle (which certain place, the “B” ranking that the Board of Health slapped on the cafe, our minds at ease).
We remaining ALL of the purchasing to him… and we left the wine choice to Mee Har Vee… much more on that later on.
When Darren (we are not truly positive if which is his actual identify or a phase title) brought out a few appetizers that integrated our staple of spare ribs (so so), crispy peking duck (yum-Mee), and a crispy hen dish, our meal received off to a wonderful begin.
It was accompanied by Mee Har Vee’s initial Ribs Tobermory Ontario of five wine alternatives, named “7 Daughters”. Now currently being that we ended up 6 men, we had been a small baffled. What was the added daughter carrying out at our table? Then he discussed the Seven daughters represented the 7 different grapes that had been blended in to producing this most scrumptious white wine. There ended up four other wines served. Beats me what they were referred to as. By then I was… umm, back again to the review.
So, following the appetizers settled properly in to our bellies it was time for Darren (that was his title, appropriate?) to advise our entrees. There had been 4 or 5 breathtaking alternatives served with some extraordinary sauces. Absolutely nothing spicy. But, extremely succulent.
My favorite was the 5 pound lobster in garlic and ginger sauce.
There was some steak cube (kew?)… melted in your mouth. Scallops that have been like butter. Yet another hen dish, and property unique fried rice.
Becoming a real, genuine, Chinese Cafe, there was no fortune cookies served for desert (so sorry, you may have to choose your lotto numbers from some other spot), but the sweetest juiciest oranges I’ve had in a long prolonged time.
There are practically hundreds of Chinese dining places that you could go to in Flushing. This is 1 that you surely never want to miss out on.
